FAQ | Weddings
Q: Can I keep my photos?
A: Yes. You will receive a DVD containing all of the photographs shot on your wedding day and you will be granted full usage rights from the photographer. This means you may do with them as you please at no additional cost. You can print them, post them to the photo-sharing websites (Flickr, Snapfish, etc.) and email them to family and friends.
Rick Buchanan Photography retains the copyright on all photographs.
Q: Are the photographs on my DVD proofs?
A: No. The photographs on your DVD are edited, finished photographs, not unedited proofs directly off my camera. This is an important difference. I review every photograph making minor adjustments as needed. Each image is post-processed, color-corrected and polished using the latest professional software. You can expect to receive color, black & white, sepia, color-toned and photo-manipulated photographs of your wedding day on your DVD.
Q: How soon will I get my DVD?
A: The DVD will be packaged and mailed to you 3-4 weeks after your wedding day.
Q: What kind of equipment do you use?
A: I use professional Canon digital SLR bodies, Canon professional speedlights and Canon L-series lenses. These are Canon's finest professional lenses. I have back-ups of every piece of camera equipment. I process all of my photographs on current Macintosh computers using Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and other professional photography software. I use a color-managed workflow for highly accurate color. I invest regularly to stay current on camera equipment, computer equipment/software and education to insure you receive very high quality photographs.
I am a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.
Q: Is a deposit required to hold my wedding date?
A: Yes. A deposit of $350 is required to hold your wedding date. The deposit amount applies toward your final contracted fee. The deposit amount is non-refundable. I can accept payment in cash or check.
Q: When is my final payment due?
A: Your final payment is due on or before your wedding day. Many people choose to make multiple smaller payments in the months leading up to their wedding day. I can accept payment in cash or check.
Q: What happens after I pay my deposit?
Once I receive your deposit, I will acknowledge receipt of the deposit in writing via email and book your date. You will also receive a helpful list of common wedding day photos. This will help you start thinking about the photographs you will want on your wedding day.
Next, you must determine what services, if any, you wish to add to the Standard Wedding Package. At that point I will prepare a contract for you to review/sign.
About one month before your wedding day, I will contact you to schedule a planning meeting. At the meeting we will discuss, plan and outline a photography schedule and locations for your wedding day, which you can pass along to your wedding party and family members. At the conclusion of this meeting, your photography-related responsibilities are complete and I will take care of the rest.
Q: How far in advance are you booked?
A: I am usually booked 6-12 months in advance. The months of April, May, June, August, September and October book quickly.
Q: Is your wedding package flexible?
A: Yes. My goal is to help you find a wedding package that fits your needs and budget. Please call me if you have questions about my wedding photography packages/services or don't see what you're looking for.
Q: What is your photography style?
A: I shoot primarily photojournalism and lifestyle photography – candid, unposed moments capturing the flow of events and details of your wedding day. I also shoot in a more traditional style of wedding photography for group and portrait photos. Most couples want a combination of both styles. My background is in advertising and I bring elements of that discipline to my wedding photography. I will guide and offer creative ideas and suggestions as we plan your wedding photography and throughout your wedding day, but never be obtrusive.
Q: How many photographs will you take?
A: Every wedding package includes unlimited photographs, generally 80-100 photographs per/hour of coverage.
Q: What if I want a second photographer at my wedding?
A: My assistant works closely with me to provide a second photographer for your wedding. The fee for a second photographer is $100/hour.
Q: Can you take our wedding photos somewhere other than the church/ceremony/reception location?
A: Yes, I do this with many couples and many find this to be one of the most enjoyable parts of their day. We can plan and schedule time to shoot your wedding photos virtually anywhere you have in mind. Or, I can suggest one of the many unique locations in central Ohio I have scouted, including outdoor, urban, warehouse, natural and parkland settings. I will work with you to design a session that fits your personality and desire.
Q: When is it best to schedule our engagement portrait?
A: Engagement portraits can be scheduled anytime in the months before your wedding. I shoot engagement portraits in my studio in downtown Columbus or on location. I have scouted and shoot in many unique locations in central Ohio, including outdoor, urban, warehouse, natural and parkland settings. I will work with you to design a session that fits your personality and desire. The session lasts for 1 hour and includes an online proof gallery and an 8x10 framed print.
Q: Wedding albums are not included in your package. Are they available?
A: Yes. Wedding albums are available in both the traditional style and contemporary storybook style. Album prices range from $300 - $3,000. I will work with you to develop a custom wedding album to fit your budget. Albums can be ordered at anytime in the months and years after your wedding.
Q: What happens if it rains on my wedding day?
A: We will develop an alternative plan in case of rain when we meet prior to your wedding day to plan your wedding photography.
Q: Other than the website, do you have additional samples of your wedding photography?
A: Yes. Many additional samples can be viewed at my studio. I encourage you to schedule a time to meet with me and view my work.
Q: When do you typically meet with clients?
A: I am available by appointment during the business day, evenings or weekends. Please call or email to schedule an appointment.
Q: Do you photograph out-of-town weddings?
A: Yes. I am available for travel worldwide.
Q: Do you charge for travel?
A: There is no charge for travel within central Ohio. For weddings outside central Ohio, I will work with you to determine the appropriate fee to cover my travel expenses.
